THE LAST STOP OF THE TOUR: Savannah & Tybee Island, Georgia
I had no idea what to expect when it came to the differences between Charleston & Savannah. I have heard to absolutely visit both places since they're both so full of rich history, but each has it's own uniqueness. I still pictured them to be very similar for some reason. Well, they did end up being very different from one another. Savannah seemed smaller, more quaint, and laid-back. It didn't quite have as much to look at as Charleston, but that's what made us enjoy it so much. Since it was the end of our vacation, we were ready for some slowin' down time and Savannah was just the place for it. We stayed in this awesome hotel called Staybridge Suites that we booked just before we left Charleston. We lucked out by "naming our price" on Priceline and arrived to Savannah to find that it was a gorgeous old building in this row of old buildings facing the River Walk (the row of shops, restaurants, entertainment along the river front). It was once a very old warehouse that had been renovated. We were completely cracking up because there was a sign in the lobby that free hor d'oerves would be served in the late afternoons on certain days, so we showed up on Thursday afternoon all ready for some little snack or something before we went exploring to find a restaurant. Well, it ended up being all you can eat barbecue!!! It was a full meal!! Oh, there were the MOST people in line for that food all taking advantage of this complementary cocktail hour. None of us had to go pay for dinner that night! Marc and I were eating the most and when we were done we were the most stuffed. People were practically fighting for that barbecue. It was yum good!!! One of the cool things we did in Savannah was go on a guided Ghost Tour. All these historical cities are full of ghost stories, something we learned on this vacation. So we loaded up on some haunted looking van thing at 10:30 pm and drove around the city with some tour guide woman trying to talk in this scary voice telling us all these stories. Her voice sounded so funny cuz she was trying so hard to sound like a witch. Poor thang. Marc and I were kinda crackin' up about it but everyone else on the tour was being the most serious all listening and probably thinking that she really did talk like that. The stories really were giving me chills, though, and we actually did stop and go into a haunted house. She said that many people see objects appearing in pictures they took on this tour on their camera screen when they are going back later and looking at their pictures. How scary is that! Marc and I were hoping we would see some person's face or something in our pictures, but we didn't. We were all pumped up about scaring ourselves half to death. Oh, it was the most fun night ever.
We also walked up and down the River Walk a bunch checking out all the interesting music numbers and watching the boats that came and went. There were these most interesting men up and down the walk playing saxophones and singing and dancing. They were all the entertainment we needed. We also spent a day on Tybee Island, getting there by driving over a bridge about 30 minutes. It was a really pretty beach but not as secluded as I heard it would be. There were actually a lot of people there and it somewhat seemed like a Panama City type of beach. Check out the picture below of me writing on the wall of this little hole-in-the-wall pizza place we ate at. All these famous people had written on it. We were kinda confused by this place, though cuz the people that worked there had dirt all over them and it was a husband and wife (I think) and their 4 kids or something running around. It was kinda shady and didn't seem professional at all, but it was some of the best Hawaiian pizza I had ever had! Speaking of yummy food, our very last night in Savannah we waited in line the 2 hours to get into Paula Deen's restaurant, Lady & Sons. It was this all-you-can-eat buffet of all this home-cookin' but Marc and I really couldn't appreciate it that much cuz it was 10:30 at night by time we sat down to eat. We were so tired and somewhat full from all the other eatin' we had been doing on the trip. I wish I would had been hungrier cuz a lot of my favorite foods were on this buffet.... squash casserole, fried chicken, green beans, ham, ocra, mashed potatoes, some yummy salad, corn casserole, and it goes on and on and on. I know, I'm making myself hungry just writing about it!! Oh, and some yummy cornbread! It really reminded us of the food we grew up eatin' cuz between Happy Jack's pinto beans & ham, and Connie's real mashed potatoes, both can bust out some fixins' just as yummy as Paula Deen's! Okay, so check out this balcony. I'm not going to dare tell you what happened on this very balcony in the early 1800s!! The scariest thang ever!
Some of our entertainment... This guy was asking for all these requests but then when we would request something he wouldn't even know it! I requested Wonderful Tonight, Rocky Top, and some others that I thought would maybe be familiar to him, but he had no clue what they were. All he knew was Happy Birthday, that song played by a high school band at a basketball game, and Mary Had a Little Lamb! I am not even kidding.

Okay, this was random. Our waitress at Paula Deen's restaurant out of the blue asks her guests if they want her to sing for them. Then, she busts out in this very interesting 20's style of music. Marc and I kinda almost busted cuz we were not even expecting this type of singing she was doing. We thought maybe she was joking, but she was the most serious. She's actually trying to be discovered and is there at the Savannah School of Arts majoring in music or something.
Demonstrating how full I was after all that free barbecue at our hotel. I just laugh out loud whenever I think of that story...
Okay, well Marc was not even full yet. He was on his 5th plate! Oh, he loves him some free food.
Here we are sitting in the park where Forrest Gump was filmed. This is where the bench was that Forrest sat on. Oh, I felt so special to be there! There are this teeny tiny parks situated on every corner with a statue of some famous historical figure perched up right in the middle of them. They all have these beautiful flowers and benches and people just stroll through there looking the most care-free and relaxed. It made me the happiest!!
We loved the Savannah Waving Girl and her little doggie. This is a statue on the River Walk. The story behind this is that a girl, in her 20's or so, would come out during the war and wave at all the boats of soldiers as they docked and show them some great Southern hospitality. Oh, and she always had her little dog with her. For some reason I just love this story.

So that's all for this story. I wanted to share some of our fun stories and pictures with you all from our wonderful vacation. This was definitely one of the most memorable vacations I have ever been on. I am in love with Charleston & Savannah and would highly recommend anyone visit... it was great because there were aspects to them that BOTH Marc and I could enjoy. We are so blessed to have been able to take a big vacation like this each year since we have been married. There are still soooo many places even just in the U.S. we would like to visit. It's always fun to figure out where we gonna go next. Where will it be next year?? Hmm...
